At the July Business Blueprint Conference, attendees were treated to a high-impact masterclass from Ken Okazaki, a world-leading video marketing expert based in Japan.
Ken is the founder of the 20X Agency and has worked with coaches, consultants, and service businesses across the globe to help them scale through strategic video content. His masterclass, How to Build a Video Marketing Machine That Builds Authority and Generates Leads Daily, walked the audience through the real process of growing a strong, credible online presence using short-form video.
Ken’s approach isn’t about going viral or chasing trends. Instead, it’s about building a content system that steadily grows your audience, showcases your expertise, and turns followers into clients.
As Ken shared with the audience, we are often waiting for the right moment to feel confident enough to start creating content, when in fact:

Having confidence isn’t a requirement to start video marketing. It’s a result of doing the work consistently and purposefully.
Here’s how Ken outlined the path to becoming a trusted authority through video.

1. Start With Cadence
The first step is simply showing up regularly. This means choosing a sustainable publishing rhythm, whether that’s one video a week, or a block of content created monthly, and sticking to it.
Consistency matters more than perfection. You don’t need expensive gear or a videographer. Your smartphone and some basic lighting are enough to begin.
2. Build Competence Through Repetition
With cadence in place, competence follows. This is where you learn how to refine your messaging, improve your delivery, and better understand what resonates with your audience.
Every video you post is part of the learning curve. You become clearer, faster, and more effective the more you practise, even if your first few attempts feel uncomfortable or messy.
Ken encourages business owners not to overthink this stage. Focus on the doing, and the learning will come naturally.
3. Confidence Starts to Emerge
As your skills grow, so does your confidence. By now, you know what your audience responds to. You’ve had some engagement, maybe even a few leads. You’re more relaxed on camera and your delivery has improved.
Confidence is essential, not just for performance, but because it builds trust. People are drawn to someone who speaks with certainty and clarity.
4. Develop Proficiency
Proficiency comes next. This is when content creation becomes second nature. You can plan a batch of videos, shoot them in a short window, and trust that they’ll perform.
At this stage, you start moving beyond the basics. You’re not just creating content, you’re crafting a message, telling stories and addressing objections before they arise. It feels natural and aligned with your brand.
5. Earn Authority
Authority is the result of showing up consistently, delivering value and building trust over time. It’s when people in your industry start mentioning your name. It’s when your content gets shared in conversations you’re not part of. This wil be the time when potential clients start to say, “I feel like I already know you.”
Ken calls this the “Authority Funnel”. It’s a structured way to lead people from being complete strangers to becoming loyal buyers. And video, when done right, is the most efficient way to get there.
Start Simple. Stay Consistent.
The biggest takeaway from Ken’s session was that you don’t need to start with a huge following or flashy production. You just need to begin. Use the tools you have, follow a plan, and keep going long enough to build the skills that set you apart.
