One of the most transformative strategies you can use throughout your entrepreneurial journey is planning a pre-loaded year.
As Business Blueprint Founder Dale Beaumont reminds members, “Spectacular achievement is always preceded by unspectacular preparation.” For the last sixteen years, this philosophy has been central to his success, and it has helped thousands of others create more meaningful, productive and energised lives.
So what exactly does a pre-loaded year involve? And how can you use this method to ensure 2026 becomes your most successful year yet?

The Power Of Planning In Advance
The pre-loaded year is a simple but powerful concept: map out your entire year on a single page before the year begins. This visual calendar becomes your guide, helping you proactively design the life and business you want, instead of reacting to the chaos that unfolds when there’s no clear plan.
The aim isn’t just to fill your calendar, it’s to intentionally design your weeks, months and milestones. Dale describes it as “living life by design, not by default.”
Step One: Prioritise Your Personal Life First
Most entrepreneurs instinctively plan their business schedule first, and fit in family, holidays, and hobbies around the edges. Dale prefers to flip this.
The first step in your pre-loaded year is to schedule you. Start by blocking out:
- Your birthday (and take the day off to celebrate)
- Your partner and kids’ birthdays
- One day a week where you don’t work
- Four holidays across the year (start with 2–3 days if needed, and expand over time)
- Relationship time—fortnightly or monthly date nights
- Time for hobbies, personal development, and fitness
- School holidays (if you have children)
- Extended family catch-ups and time with friends
- Charity, community involvement or spiritual practices
- Regular medical check-ups or self-care routines
This process ensures your business supports your life, not the other way around. As Dale put it, “Work is what you do, it’s not who you are.”
Step Two: Lock In Your Learning
Once your personal life is mapped out, the next layer is professional development. For Business Blueprint members, this includes four major conferences across the year, plus the iGrow event for those with virtual teams in the Philippines.
Dale emphasised the importance of “sharpening the saw”, a concept from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. By stepping away from the business to learn, reflect, and recharge you return stronger and more focused. Even the flights to and from these events can spark new ideas and breakthroughs.
If you’re not a Business Blueprint member, apply the same principle: schedule workshops, industry events or personal growth retreats before the year begins.
The Real Cost Of Inefficiency
To illustrate why planning is so powerful, Dale led the audience through a handwriting exercise designed to show the energy drain of multitasking. Writing two simple sentences took over three times longer when switching between them letter-by-letter than when writing each one individually.
His point? Constantly switching tasks in your business or life leads to inefficiency, stress, and burnout. By blocking time for specific activities and focusing on one at a time, your productivity skyrockets. As he said, “What gets scheduled gets done.”
Go From Time Blocking To Time Boxing
Blocking time is a great start. But to get even more from your days, Dale encourages entrepreneurs to use time boxing; a strategy where you not only schedule time, but set a measurable outcome for that block.
For example, instead of just planning to “work on marketing” for two hours, you’d aim to “write and schedule five email campaigns”. This adds focus and urgency, and aligns with Parkinson’s Law: Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.
Build In Recovery Before Burnout Hits
Too many business owners push themselves until they hit breaking point, either physically or emotionally, or within their relationship. Dale encourages a different approach: prevent disaster by planning recovery time in advance.
This could be:
- Regular short breaks throughout the year
- Scheduled self-care or therapy
- Quality time with loved ones
- Creative hobbies that refresh your energy
Design 2026 Before It Begins
By combining visual planning tools with the principles of time blocking, time boxing, batching, and self-care, you can lay the foundation for a purposeful and powerful year. Whether you’re leading a team, building a new product, or simply trying to create more time for what matters, the pre-loaded year gives you clarity and control.
Before wrapping up, Dale offered this final quote: “There are three kinds of people—those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.”
Your success in 2026 won’t be determined by chance, but by choice. Plan early, plan well and give yourself the greatest chance of making next year your best year ever.
