Information Technology or IT is a heavily loaded term if you ask me. It describes the use of technology to process and transmit information and as this can be applied across a broad range of fields, your mobile phone is an example of an IT project, as is parts of your car and even modern refrigerators! As you can see, IT is broadening in application and becoming ubiquitous.

An Information Technology project could form one part or the entire part of a system. This component would typically transmit information using technology to other parts of the system. For example, a FitBit, worn on your hand as a watch is a hardware device, but it records your movements and calculates other statistics through its software. The entire FitBit project may not be classified as an IT project, but the components used to process and transfer information would.
